Amsterdam Light Festival -
Lite of Passage

The Lite of Passage marks ACKM Studio’s international debut at the Amsterdam Light Festival, transforming a historic bridge into an immersive ritual of light, movement, and connection. The installation responds to the festival’s theme Rituals and Amsterdam’s 750-year legacy as a city shaped by inclusivity and cultural exchange.

Composed of 435 custom RGB-lit globes woven into a prestressed net, the installation is animated through carefully programmed lighting sequences that create rhythmic ripples of colour as visitors move through the space. By day, the structure interacts with natural light, casting intricate shadows; by night, it becomes a glowing beacon reflected in the surrounding water.

Blending technological precision with a deeply human narrative, The Lite of Passage reimagines the bridge as both a physical crossing and a metaphorical journey—honouring shared traditions while inviting reflection, belonging, and connection across cultures and generations.
