SOL - Residence 

Inspired by the sun, Sol is a 1,900 sq. ft. residence in Mumbai, designed for a young couple and their newborn daughter. Reimagined from a four-bedroom apartment into a more generous three-bedroom home, the project explores how light, warmth, and natural materials can create a sense of stillness within the intensity of urban life.

 

Designed as a quiet counterpoint to the city outside, the home is defined by soft tonal layers, tactile finishes, and spaces that encourage pause. Terrazzo flooring, lime-plastered walls, marble inlay details, and handcrafted elements come together to create an atmosphere that feels calm, grounded, and deeply personal. An open-plan living and dining area forms the heart of the home, while concealed storage, a sliding television panel, and thoughtful spatial planning maintain a sense of visual clarity.

 

The master suite is designed as a private retreat, while the daughter’s room introduces playful details through a hand-painted mural ceiling and natural materials. Throughout the home, locally sourced furnishings and artisanal collaborations reinforce ACKM Studio’s commitment to material honesty, craftsmanship, and a slower, more intentional way of living.
